Duty of Computing Practitioners

Why bother with all of these codes of conduct, ethics and integrity? There are many reasons but some might be the needs of the society to which we might aspire to, where the rights of individuals, customers and clients to privacy, transparency of an organisation’s or professional’s actions and the motives of a professional and the organisation they work for, are considered paramount and applied before any consideration for profit or otherwise individual-professional or organisational (business) self-interest.

Professional standards (codes of conduct/ethics) help, in theory, to balance out any imbalances that may or might have presented had these controls not been in place, toward ensuring that the needs of society, the environment and the political arena are served.
