We have already suggested that reading could be one area that PB membership could, and arguably should, result in, but how can this achieved? Consider this: are there likely to be many people that are paid by their employers (the ‘businesses’) to read? There will be some, but not many in the grand scheme of things we suggest.
Thus, from a theoretical perspective, it could easily be argued that if PB’s are to exist, and employers wish for employees to be members of professional bodies and that membership entails the benefits outlined that the employer should then be prepared to allocate time, within the working schedule, to its employees to continually keep abreast of current and historical issues through reading.
